MALASSEZIA, SEM
Yeats of the genus Malassezia (colorized SEM).
Malassezia are lipophilic yeasts, belonging to skin flora (saprotroph resident flora) that can be the cause of mycoses in mankind and animal. Thereby, Malassezia furfur is the agent of pityriasis versicolor and seborrheic dermatitis, Malassezia pachydermatis cause external otitidis in the dog. The morphology of Malassezia yeasts is very particular.
