BLUE SKATE

Engraving of the 19th century captionned : 1. ordinary sturgeon (Acipenser sturio), 2. raia gaimardi. The drawings 1a and 2a show respectively the mouth of the sturgeon and the mouth of the ray, viewed from above. The ordinary sturgeon is now known as common sturgeon. The raia gaimardi is now known as Blue skate ; its current scientific name is Dipturus batis.
