The retina.
Focus on the stucture of the retina, from the left to the right :
- vitreous body,
- internal limiting membrane (in brown),
- ganglion cells (of which the axons form the optic nerve, in yellow),
- bipolar cells (that liaise the photoreceptors and the ganglion cells, in orange),
- amacrine cells (interneurons insuring the horizontal diffusion of the nerve impulse, in purple),
- horizontal cell (interneuron insuring the diffusion of the nerve impulse perpendicularly to the other neurons, in pink),
- Muller glial cell (supporting cell, in beige),
- photoreceptors : rods (in purple), cones (in blue and green),
- retina pigment epithelium (in brown) with the pigmentary cells (in beige),
- Bruch membrane,
- blood vessels of the choroid (in red).
