RADIOTHERAPY APPARATUS
Photo essay from hospital. Apparatus 'Shaped beam surgery' (Novalis) for stereotactic radiosurgery, that enables to destroy tumors specifically. This device delivers precise doses of high energy irradiation on benign or malignant lesions of the brain or vertebral column. It allies stereotaxic neurosurgery (technique of neurosurgery using very precise localization and in three dimensions of the lesion) and the multibeam radiotherapy (concentration of very numerous beams, emitted from various sources, on a precise point). The cerebral lesion is localized very precisely in the space thanks to the use of a stereotaxic frame fixed to the skull of the patient and various techniques of medical imagery. Then, the treatment is undertaken through 52 sources of tungsten emitting a radiation directed towards a unique point. This device enables to irradiate very specifically the area to be treated. | ||
