ZYGOMYCETE
This slide describes the histopathologic changes seen in a heart valve due to zygomycosis caused by Mucor pusillus. Using methenamine silver stain, one can detect the presence of fungal elements associated with zygomycosis, including sparsely septate hyphae, amongst a mostly acute inflammatory process with some island of chronic granulomatous inflammation.
