ANTIMICROB. SUSCEPTIBILITY TEST
Photo essay from laboratory.
Hospital of Meaux (77), France. Laboratory of bacteriology. Antimicrobial susceptibility test.

The sensibility to different antibiotics of the bacterium infecting the patient is tested with an antibiogram. Therefore, the bacterial culture is seeded on a petri dish. Each disc is impregnated with a different antibiotic ; if the antibiotic is effective, it will inhibit the bacterial growth. The more the surface without bacterium around the disc is important, the more the bacterium is sensible to the antibiotic, and therefore the more the antibiotic treatment will be effective on the patient.
