The lingual frenulum is the membrane connecting the inferior face of the tongue to the buccal floor. A frenectomy (ablation of the frenulum) or frenotomy (incision of the frenulum) can be undertaken when the frenulum is short (ankyloglossia), which bothers tongue mobility and then deglutition and phonation.
