COLITIS, X-RAY

Inflammatory colitis. Sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve conduction of the colonic wall is inhibited in the inflamed area, thus causing this section of the descending colon to shrink, forming a narrow, atonic tube. In certain cases, the colon may take on the appearance of a thin cord.
