Coronary bypass.
Representation of the coronary bypass. When the coronary artery is obstructed by a plaque of atheroma (the darker red area of the vessel), the blood can not circulate correctly to irriguate the heart.
A bypass is undertaken with a transplantation of a vessel (part of an artery or vein) from the aorta to the affected coronary artery, so as to derivate the coronary circulation.
See the image 1075207 for details of the transplantation.
