Warning on avian flu ! | August 9th, 2007
Recently, the death of a little Indonesian and the discovery of three swans infected by the virus H5N1 in Moselle, France have brought back avian flu in the news.

This influenza virus is susceptible to affect numerous wild and domestic birds. The migratory waterfowls play the role of pool. Duck is an asymptomatic carrier, which means that it can be affected by the disease without showing any symptoms. The transmission is made by the secretions issues of the respiratory airways and fecal matters.

The migrations make the task even more difficult for breeders and sanitary autorities. Moreover, in certain countries affected by avian flu, the families continue, to breed hens at home, despite the interdiction, which encourages the propagation of zoonosis and has already provoked the death of various persons.

This virus can be transmitted to mammals, notably pigs and even to man. These cases remain exceptional but not negligible.
